BETA READER

What is a beta reader?

A beta reader reads a finished manuscript with a focus on these story elements:

• Characters, arc and development
• Plot and structure
• Pace
• Mood and tone
• Dialogue
• Genre

The report also includes a marked manuscript to show notes. 

Many agents and editors will ask that you have beta readers report on your manuscript to help identify holes or ‘skips’ in the story, places that your revising can address.    When a writer is so ‘inside’ the story, they might not be able to see what a reader will see or feel which makes beta readers an extremely valuable tool for any author. I also think a writer needs to know what’s working, too.

A beta reader is not a developmental consultant or editor.

RATES

Adult, YA, Middle Grade Fiction

1.85 per 1000 words with a $75 minimum

Children’s Picture books

Text only reads are $50 minimum

SCRIPT OR STORY CONSULTANT
